Renewable energy is now more important than ever.

The world is watching the tensions in Iran and the wider region with concern. What is happening there may seem far away, but we feel the impact here every day. As soon as something goes wrong in the Middle East, oil and gas prices surge. Petrol stations adjust their rates, energy bills rise, and businesses once again face uncertainty. It is a pattern we have known for decades — and one that keeps repeating itself.

That is precisely why awareness is growing that we must take a different direction: one in which we are no longer dependent on fuels that must come from far away and whose price is dictated by geopolitical tensions.

The vulnerability of our energy system

Our current energy system depends largely on fossil fuels. This means that a conflict, blockade, or attack thousands of kilometres away is immediately felt in our wallets. Whether it concerns war, sanctions, or political tensions, as soon as the supply of oil or gas is threatened, we immediately feel the impact.

This is not only frustrating; it is also dangerous for our economy. Businesses struggle to plan when energy costs are unpredictable. Households do not know what to expect. And as a country, we remain dependent on nations where stability is rarely guaranteed.

Renewable energy gives us control again

Renewable energy breaks this pattern. Solar and wind power are not affected by conflicts. They do not require shipping routes. No political pressure is involved. They are generated locally and remain available, regardless of what happens in the world.

When we produce energy ourselves, we build a more stable future. The more solar panels, wind turbines, and heat pumps we install, the less influence international tensions have on our bills. The energy we generate here remains ours — and no conflict can change that.

Economically smarter, not only ecological

Although renewable energy is often associated with climate and sustainability, today it is above all an economic necessity. Businesses that invest in their own energy production are in a stronger position. They can forecast their costs, lose less money to price fluctuations, and build long-term resilience.

Households also feel the difference. A home that runs partly or fully on self-generated energy is less affected by every new shock in the international energy market. This brings peace of mind in a world that is becoming increasingly unpredictable.

A strategic choice for the future

We are at a crossroads. Do we remain dependent on fossil fuels that repeatedly disrupt our economy? Or do we decisively choose an energy system that is reliable, local, and future-focused?

Renewable energy is far more than a green alternative. It is a form of protection. A shield against price fluctuations, geopolitical instability, and uncertainty. In a world where tensions in Iran — or anywhere else — are increasingly quickly reflected in our energy bills, it is clear that we no longer have time to lose.

The future is renewable. And the sooner we make that choice, the stronger we will emerge as a society.
